Sustainability & Responsibility - core principles of the PhytoEnergy Group

We are committed to the highest standards of quality and reliability in the fuel that we produce. Our understanding is that biofuels today need to be produced sustainable and with responsibility for the society, the nature and the people.

That’s why the PhytoEnergy Group have a policy of transparency in where our feedstocks come from and how our fuels are made. We committed to the rules of the ISCC-System, International Sustainability & Carbon Certification.

Why certify to the ISCC certification system?

Renewable energy is of global interest, and is significant in the efforts to reduce GHG emissions globally, to reduce and reverse global warming. Regulatory requirements and players in the market increasingly demand that providers prove responsible and sustainable production of biomass and biofuels, throughout the supply chain.

Benefits of sustainable biofuels certification:

  • Assurance to your customers that your products are responsibly produced
  • Market recognition as a leading player in the market for sustainable biofuels
  • Proves compliance to your region’s regulatory requirements
  • Proves compliance with  the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED), thereby granting access to this market for your biomass/biofuels products
  • Certification enables you to communicate credibly to the market regarding the sustainability of your biomass/biofuels products.

What is ISCC?

ISCC is a globally leading certification system covering the entire supply chain and all kinds of biobased feedstocks and renewables. Independent third party certification ensures compliance with high ecological and social sustainability requirements, greenhouse gas emissions savings and traceability throughout the supply chain. ISCC can be applied in various markets including the bioenergy sector, the food and feed market and the chemical market. Since its start of operation in 2010, more than 12,500 certificates in more than 100 countries have been issued.

What is covered by ISCC?

ISCC is globally applicable for all kinds of agricultural crops, their derivatives and renewables. All elements along the supply chain from agriculture or the point of origin up to the end user of the final product are covered. ISCC ensures that:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions are reduced
  • Biomass is not produced on land with high biodiversity and high carbon stock
  • Good agricultural practices and the protection of soil, water and air is applied
  • Human, labour and land rights are respected

High requirements for traceability ensure that the physical way of the biomass can be traced throughout the whole supply chain. Furthermore, ISCC provides methodologies to calculate mass balances and verify greenhouse gas emissions along the supply chain.
